Briana Owens on Making Fitness More Accessible and Inclusive For Black Women

During a recent interview with Essence Magazine, Briana Owens, founder of Spiked Spin discusses why she created this New York based cycling company.

“Spiked Spin was created in response to the need for quality affordable fitness options for minorities. There are many crazes that cater to other demographics, and often times minorities are an afterthought,” she shares with ESSENCE.

In a previous article by Essence Magazine, “Black Women and Wellness: What it Means to Be Well in 2017” we learn that black women are underrepresented in the wellness space and as a result we see these communities disproportionately impacted by chronic diseases such as high blood pressure.
