NEW YORK, NY – Thursday, August 23, 2018 – Fresh from the success of her newly released single, “Made For Now,” with Daddy Yankee, global icon Janet Jackson will appear to receive the “Rock Star Award” at the 2018 “BLACK GIRLS ROCK!™Awards honoring the groundbreaking achievements of Black women who have fearlessly broken barriers in the areas of art, business, entertainment and community service. Created by celebrity DJ and women’s empowerment advocate Beverly Bond, BLACK GIRLS ROCK!™ will premiere on Sunday, September 9, 2018 at 8:00 P.M. ET/PT on BET.
The ROCK- STAR AWARD is given to phenomenal women in music who are cultural innovators and whose work exhibits a commitment to the craftsmanship, creativity, integrity and elevation of high art. This award celebrates fierce, fearless ‘sheroes’ in music who have successfully pushed the envelope and carved a niche where other artists not only take note, but dutifully follow her lead. This artist’s combination of talent, work-ethic and drive makes her one of those who set the standard of excellence in music entertainment and culture.
The other 2018 BLACK GIRLS ROCK!™ celebrants are Academy Award nominated actress and GRAMMY Award winning singer Mary J. Blige (Star Power Award); World renowned dancer/choreographer and Artistic Director Emerita of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater Judith Jamison (Living Legend Award); International Supermodel and Philanthropist Naomi Campbell (Black Girl Magic Award); Emmy Award winning writer, creator, actress and dedicated LGBTQ advocate Lena Waithe (Shot Caller Award); and founder of the groundbreaking ‘Me Too’ movement Tarana Burke (Community Change Agent Award). Created by celebrity DJ and women’s empowerment advocate Beverly Bond, the 2018 “BLACK GIRLS ROCK!™” Awards honors the groundbreaking achievements of Black women who have fearlessly broken barriers in the areas of art, business, entertainment and community service.
“Made For Now,” which debuted at #1 on iTunes, is inspired by Janet’s personal love of music from around the globe and is produced by Harmony Samuels, who has crafted tracks for Ariana Grande, Mary J. Blige and Maroon 5.
The song is meant to move people to enjoy their lives and seize opportunities today, not worry or wait until tomorrow. Shot in Brooklyn, New York, the music video was produced by her longtime collaborator; and Grammy-Award winning Director, Dave Myers and will transport fans to a neighborhood dance party filled with cameos from a contingent of international dancers from Ghana, Nigeria, Grenada, Trinidad and the U.S. who were hand selected by Janet and her longtime Creative Director Gil Duldulao. Since its release on Friday, August 17, the video has nearly 18 million views.
